SIR declaration Form 6
The Election Commission of India has completely separated the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) declaration from online Form 6 in all states. Applicants seeking inclusion in the electoral roll must now submit the declaration separately rather than as part of Form 6. The change also applies to states where the revision exercise is still underway.
Form 6 is the application used for inclusion in the electoral roll. The SIR declaration had earlier been linked to the online form in some states. After separating it from Form 6 in states where the revision exercise had been completed, the Commission has now extended the arrangement across the country.
The Commission has also introduced revised procedures for its internal functioning. Meeting agendas will be circulated in advance, while formal minutes will be issued after meetings. ECI officials will require the Commission’s approval before undertaking foreign travel. Proposals for new IT modules will be reviewed by a committee before being placed before the Commission.
The change follows concerns raised by two Election Commissioners about linking the SIR declaration with Form 6. The Commission says the revision exercise is intended to ensure the accuracy of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have held demonstrations in Delhi and other parts of the country over the SIR exercise.
The INDIA bloc has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties have also alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls and claimed that voters’ names were deleted. The Commission’s latest measures are intended to improve transparency, streamline functioning and formally document decision-making.
