Asaphila Longju India China border
The border pockets of Asaphila and Longju in Arunachal Pradesh remain sensitive because India and China have differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control (LAC). However, the overall situation is described as stable and under control, with local face-offs being managed through established military channels.
Indian and Chinese patrols periodically encounter each other during routine operations. According to defence sources, these local face-offs are being handled through flag meetings, hotline communications and other military-to-military mechanisms. The source also reports that there have been no violent clashes between military personnel from the two sides.
“While Asaphila and Longju remain sensitive due to differing LAC perceptions, the overall situation is fully under control,” a source said.
A Corps Commander-level interaction in the Northeast was described as a step towards institutionalising high-level dialogue. Sustained military and diplomatic engagement is regarded as important for maintaining peace and addressing outstanding boundary issues.
Infrastructure initiatives are continuing in remote frontier areas. These include all-weather roads, bridges, telecommunications networks and civic amenities. The initiatives are intended to improve connectivity, support security personnel and assist local residents.
The source also refers to civil-military initiatives such as healthcare camps, emergency evacuations, school construction and employment opportunities. Improved connectivity could potentially support controlled border trade, subject to security and diplomatic conditions.
The Tsari pilgrimage circuit is described as having cultural and religious significance for Buddhist communities on both sides of the border. Any future access for cross-border pilgrimage would depend on security conditions and agreement between India and China.
