Panagiotis Dilmperis Mohun Bagan East Bengal
Cloud TV Sports Desk: A fresh chapter has been added to the fierce rivalry between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal, with both Kolkata clubs reportedly vying for the services of Greek coach Panagiotis Dilmperis ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) season (Panagiotis Dilmperis Mohun Bagan East Bengal) .
The coaching saga took a dramatic turn on Tuesday evening after Dilmperis officially parted ways with Punjab FC through a mutual agreement. Sources indicate that the Greek tactician had verbally agreed to become the new head coach of Mohun Bagan Super Giant for the upcoming season.
However, with the paperwork yet to be finalized, East Bengal reportedly saw an opportunity to enter the race. The Red and Gold Brigade are believed to have contacted Dilmperis to explore whether he would reconsider his decision and potentially join their project instead.
The development has generated significant excitement within Kolkata’s football community, as both clubs continue to prepare for another highly competitive ISL campaign.
East Bengal enjoyed a historic season last year by defeating Inter Kashi in the final to secure their maiden ISL title. The triumph also ended a 22-year wait for a major top-flight men’s football trophy.
Following that success, head coach Oscar Bruzon indicated that the final match of the season could be his last in charge. However, he also suggested that he would be willing to continue if the club presented a stronger long-term sporting project and improved conditions.
As a result, East Bengal’s interest in strengthening their coaching setup has intensified. Meanwhile, reigning ISL champions Mohun Bagan are equally determined to build a squad and technical team capable of defending their crown.
This is not the first time the two Kolkata giants have battled over key footballing personnel. Previous transfer battles involving players such as Lalengmawia “Apuia” Ralte and Abhishek Singh Tekcham highlighted the intense competition between the clubs. On those occasions, Mohun Bagan ultimately secured the signings.
Now the rivalry has shifted from player recruitment to the managerial dugout.
Neither Mohun Bagan nor East Bengal has issued an official statement regarding the situation. Likewise, Dilmperis has remained silent on his future destination.
Time, however, is becoming a critical factor. The 2026-27 ISL season is scheduled to begin on July 25, leaving both clubs with limited time to finalize their coaching plans.
With preparations for the new campaign already underway, all eyes are now on Panagiotis Dilmperis and the decision that could shape the fortunes of one of Indian football’s biggest rivalries in the season ahead.
