Kolkata League Derby
The date and kick-off time for the much-awaited Kolkata Premier League derby have been confirmed. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan will face each other at Barasat Stadium on September 7, with the match scheduled to begin at 5 PM.
The date for the derby had already been finalised, but the kick-off time had not been announced. The Indian Football Association (IFA) has now confirmed the timing of the crucial Group A encounter.
East Bengal are currently in a stronger position in Group A of the Kolkata League. The Red and Gold brigade have collected 26 points from 10 matches and are second in the standings.
East Bengal are also unbeaten in the league so far, giving them an important psychological advantage ahead of the derby.
Mohun Bagan, meanwhile, have 22 points from 10 matches and occupy third place in Group A. The Green and Maroon side have suffered two defeats in the competition.
Both teams have one match remaining in this phase, and that final fixture will be the derby. As a result, the September 7 clash could have a significant impact on the final Group A standings.
Bhawanipore currently top Group A with 27 points. However, they have played one more match than both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
That makes the derby particularly important. East Bengal will be looking to preserve their unbeaten record and strengthen their position, while Mohun Bagan will aim to close the points gap with a strong performance against their traditional rivals.
In Group B, Mohammedan Sporting are currently top with 21 points from 10 matches. Coal India are second with 19 points, while United Sports occupy third place with 17 points, also from 10 matches.
With the league phase approaching its decisive stage, all eyes will now be on Barasat. East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan on September 7 at 5 PM promises to be one of the biggest fixtures of the Kolkata Premier League campaign.
