Cloud TV Sports Desk: Germany’s legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has announced his retirement from international football for the second time following Germany’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2026. The 40-year-old confirmed that the defeat against Paraguay was his final appearance for the German national team, bringing the curtain down on one of football’s greatest international careers.
Speaking to German broadcaster Sportschau after Germany’s World Cup exit, Neuer confirmed that he would not play for the national team again.
When asked if the match against Paraguay was his last international appearance, the veteran goalkeeper simply replied, “Yes.”
He also admitted that the manner of Germany’s exit made the decision even more emotional.
“It’s a very painful way to end it,” Neuer said after the disappointing defeat.
Germany’s campaign came to an abrupt end after losing to Paraguay, ending their hopes of lifting a fifth FIFA World Cup title.
Neuer had initially retired from international football after UEFA Euro 2024. However, he made a surprise return ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to help Germany with his experience and leadership.
Despite his comeback, Germany failed to make a deep run in the tournament, and the veteran goalkeeper has now confirmed that this retirement is final.
Manuel Neuer made his Germany debut in 2009 and went on to become one of the most influential goalkeepers in football history.
He earned more than 125 international caps and played a pivotal role in Germany’s 2014 FIFA World Cup triumph in Brazil.
