Cloud TV Desk: Netherlands defender Jan Paul van Hecke produced one of the most remarkable individual performances (Jan Paul van Hecke Passing Record) of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, setting new passing records during the Dutch side’s 3-1 victory over Tunisia.
The 26-year-old not only scored his first international goal but also dominated possession with a passing display that has earned him the title of the tournament’s new “Passing King.”
According to Opta, Van Hecke recorded 146 touches against Tunisia—the highest by any player in a single match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He also completed 130 successful passes, the highest total by any player in a World Cup match during the current tournament.
Opta’s records dating back to 1966 show that no Dutch player had ever completed as many passes in a single World Cup match.
The previous Netherlands record belonged to Jurriën Timber, who completed 106 passes against Qatar in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Team captain Virgil van Dijk also entered the top three after completing 101 passes in the same match against Tunisia.
Van Hecke’s performance has eclipsed some of football’s elite midfielders.
England defender Marc Guéhi follows with 143 touches and 126 successful passes, while midfield stars Rodri, Pedri, and Vitinha trail behind in the tournament’s passing statistics.
With his first international goal and record-breaking distribution, Van Hecke has emerged as one of the standout performers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
