The 2026 FIFA World Cup has produced several young stars. One of the most impressive names to emerge from the tournament is Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The 18-year-old Lille midfielder attracted significant attention with his performances for Morocco. He made his World Cup debut against Brazil and immediately demonstrated remarkable composure against an experienced midfield.
Bouaddi completed 60 of 66 passes in Morocco’s opening match against Brazil, registering a 91 percent passing accuracy. His ability to control the tempo and operate under pressure impressed observers.
His performances throughout Morocco’s run to the quarter-finals have now turned him into one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe.
Manchester City are reportedly leading the race for his signature. The Premier League club have been pursuing the Lille youngster and are believed to be in advanced negotiations over a possible transfer.
Bouaddi’s potential transfer could involve a huge fee. Lille are reportedly looking for around €100 million for the teenager.
That would make the move one of the biggest transfers involving a player of his age. It would also underline how highly European clubs rate Bouaddi’s potential.
Reports suggest Manchester City have already made significant progress with the player’s camp. TalkSPORT reported that City had reached an agreement with Bouaddi on personal terms, while negotiations with Lille were continuing.
Other reports have also indicated that City remain in pole position for the midfielder.
However, the deal has not been officially completed. Lille president Olivier Létang previously rejected reports of a final agreement with Manchester City. He confirmed that several major European clubs were interested in Bouaddi.
That means the final outcome could still depend on negotiations over the transfer fee and the structure of the deal.
Bouaddi was born in France and previously represented France at youth level. However, he chose to represent Morocco at senior international level in 2026.
FIFA approved his change of sporting nationality in May, clearing the way for him to represent the Atlas Lions. Morocco then selected him for the 2026 World Cup squad.
His World Cup campaign exceeded expectations. Despite having very limited senior international experience before the tournament, Bouaddi quickly established himself in Morocco’s midfield.
His technical quality, passing range, ball control and ability to resist pressure have been among his biggest strengths. FIFA also highlighted Bouaddi as part of a new generation of Moroccan players who have established themselves on the international stage.
Manchester City are believed to see him as a potential long-term midfield solution. The club have already invested heavily in midfield this summer, with Elliot Anderson joining from Nottingham Forest.
The possible arrival of Bouaddi could become even more significant following the uncertainty surrounding Rodri’s future. Manchester City are undergoing a major midfield transition under manager Enzo Maresca, making the Moroccan youngster an attractive long-term option.
For now, the transfer remains unfinished. But with City pushing strongly and Lille demanding a premium fee, Ayyoub Bouaddi could become one of the biggest young-player transfers of the summer.
