Cloud TV Desk: The countdown to FIFA World Cup 2026 has almost reached its final stage. The historic tournament, set to begin on June 11 in Mexico City, is expected to be the biggest World Cup ever, featuring 48 teams for the first time. But even before the tournament kicks off, world football has suffered a major blow. Several star players from top football nations have been ruled out due to injuries and fitness concerns, leaving fans heartbroken and forcing teams to rethink their plans.

One of the biggest setbacks has come for Brazil national football team. Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has been ruled out after suffering a serious ACL injury earlier this year. The young star was hoping to redeem himself after the disappointment of the 2022 World Cup, but his dream has now come to an end before the tournament even begins. Brazil have also been hit in defense, with Éder Militão still recovering from thigh surgery. Concerns also remain over the fitness of rising talent Estevão Willian.

France national football team have also suffered a significant blow. Young striker Hugo Ekitike has been ruled out after rupturing his Achilles tendon. Following an impressive club season, he had almost secured a place in the national squad alongside stars like Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé. Instead of shining on football’s biggest stage, Ekitike will now be forced to watch the tournament from home.

Another major absence will be felt by Netherlands national football team. Midfield sensation Xavi Simons suffered a severe ACL injury while playing for Tottenham, ending his World Cup hopes. Experts believe his absence could seriously affect the team’s creativity in attack, leaving coach Ronald Koeman with a difficult challenge ahead of the tournament.

Germany national football team are also dealing with injury concerns. Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry has been ruled out because of an adductor injury. Despite enjoying a strong club season, the German attacker has failed to recover in time for the World Cup, creating another major gap in Germany’s attacking lineup.

Co-hosts United States men’s national soccer team have also suffered a painful setback. Forward Patrick Agyemang has been ruled out after tearing his Achilles tendon. The Derby County striker had been in excellent form and was considered an important part of the United States’ plans for the tournament.

Meanwhile, co-hosts Mexico national football team have lost first-choice goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón to injury. However, the setback may open the door for veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to play in what could become his sixth World Cup appearance — a remarkable achievement in football history.

With so many stars ruled out before the tournament begins, the excitement surrounding the World Cup has undoubtedly taken a hit. At the same time, these injuries also create opportunities for younger players to step up and become the new heroes of football’s biggest stage. The world will now wait to see who rises to fill the void left behind by these absent stars.
