PoK Protest Sardar Aman Khan
Cloud TV Desk: Pakistan’s long-standing narrative over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has come under fresh scrutiny after a prominent protest leader publicly declared that the region is “neither Azad nor disputed, but occupied.”
The remarks were made by Sardar Aman Khan, one of the leading faces of the ongoing protest movement in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, during a massive public rally at Eidgah Ground in Rawalakot. His statement drew loud cheers from thousands of supporters and has intensified the political debate surrounding the region.
Addressing the gathering, Sardar Aman Khan rejected Pakistan’s decades-old description of the region as “Azad Jammu and Kashmir.”
“This is not a disputed territory. This is an occupied territory. It has been occupied,” Khan told the crowd, directly challenging Islamabad’s official position on the region.
His speech comes amid weeks of anti-government protests that have spread across several parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The demonstrations have continued for more than 40 days, with protesters accusing Pakistani authorities of political repression, economic neglect, and restrictions on basic supplies.
Khan alleged that authorities had disrupted the supply of food and medicines to several areas for weeks, creating what he described as a humanitarian crisis. He appealed for support from people living across the Line of Control as well as from India.
Recent clashes between protesters and security forces have further escalated tensions. According to officials, multiple people, including protesters and security personnel, were killed during violent confrontations ahead of a planned protest march in Rawalakot. Protest groups, however, have accused security forces of using excessive force.
India has sharply criticized Pakistan over the situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, alleging systematic exploitation, suppression of civil liberties, and the use of force against protesters. New Delhi has reiterated its long-standing position that the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, is an integral part of India.
Political analysts believe Aman Khan’s remarks are significant because they publicly challenge Pakistan’s official narrative from within Pakistan-administered Kashmir itself.
The continuing protests reflect growing public dissatisfaction over governance, political representation, and economic conditions in the region. Whether the movement develops into a broader political challenge for Islamabad remains uncertain, but the unrest has already attracted increasing international attention.
