Cloud TV Desk: Iran has congratulated White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on the birth of her daughter — but the message also carried a sharp political reminder about the controversial Minab school attack that killed scores of children earlier this year.
The response came after Leavitt announced the birth of her second child, a daughter named Viviana, through an emotional social media post. Soon after, Iran’s embassy in Armenia responded with a message that quickly triggered international debate.
Last week, Karoline Leavitt shared a social media post announcing the birth of her daughter Viviana. Posting photographs with the newborn, she wrote that her “heart was overflowing with love.”
Soon after, Iran’s embassy in Armenia reposted the announcement and wrote:
“When you kiss your child, remember the mothers of Minab.”
The post further claimed that 168 children killed in the Minab school strike were also “children deserving love and protection.”
The statement was widely interpreted as a direct criticism of the United States administration.
The Minab school attack took place on February 28, 2026, in Iran’s Hormozgan province. A strike hit a primary school in the city of Minab, reportedly killing a large number of students and teachers. Iran has repeatedly accused the United States and Israel of responsibility for the attack.
However, Washington has not formally accepted full responsibility for the incident.
International organisations and human rights groups have since demanded an independent investigation into the strike and the reported civilian deaths. Political observers believe the Iranian response was also linked to Leavitt’s earlier public statements defending US military operations.
In March, Leavitt had reportedly stated that “the United States does not target civilians.” Tehran’s latest social media message appears designed to challenge that claim by invoking the deaths of children in Minab. The use of the phrase “your boss” in the Iranian post was seen as a direct reference to the US administration and its military actions.
Analysts say the episode reflects how social media has increasingly become a platform for diplomatic messaging and geopolitical confrontation.
The Minab school strike has already drawn global concern over civilian casualties and wartime accountability. Several international organisations, including UNICEF and UNESCO, have called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
Human rights groups argue that if civilian infrastructure such as a school was intentionally or mistakenly targeted, it could amount to a serious violation of international humanitarian law. Experts believe the Iranian embassy’s message was carefully crafted to combine emotional symbolism with political criticism.
By linking a newborn child’s birth with the deaths of children in Minab, Tehran attempted to highlight the humanitarian consequences of military conflict while simultaneously challenging the moral credibility of the US administration.
The controversy comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, raising concerns that diplomatic relations between the two countries could deteriorate further.
