Annapurna Yojana
The West Bengal government’s Annapurna Yojana portal has opened a new facility allowing applicants to check the status of their applications online.
Applicants can now find out whether their application has been approved, is still under process or has been rejected. The portal also provides options for applicants whose forms have been rejected to submit a fresh claim. Complaints can also be submitted if an ineligible person is found to have received the benefit.
The official Annapurna Yojana portal is operated under the West Bengal government, with the system designed and maintained by the National Informatics Centre.
Applicants need to visit the official Annapurna Yojana portal and select the Citizen/Family Login option.
They will then have to select their district and enter the mobile number used while submitting the application.
A six-digit OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number. After entering the OTP, the applicant will be taken to a new page containing the beneficiary status details.
The application status can appear under three broad categories:
Approved: This means the application has been accepted. The beneficiary may have already received the payment or could receive it shortly.
Under Process: This means the application has been successfully submitted and is currently undergoing verification. Officials may conduct additional verification, including checking documents at the applicant’s residence or contacting the applicant by phone.
Rejected: Applicants whose forms have been rejected will have an opportunity to submit a fresh claim through the portal, subject to providing the required information.
The official portal also provides information and services related to the Annapurna Yojana.
The new portal is not limited to checking application status.
An Objection and Claim facility has also been provided. Applicants whose forms have been rejected can use the relevant option to submit additional information and seek reconsideration.
There is also a provision for reporting cases where an allegedly ineligible person has received benefits under the scheme.
However, complaints must contain specific and relevant information. The administration will examine the details before deciding whether further action is required.
The system is intended to make the application and grievance process more transparent while giving eligible applicants another opportunity if their applications were rejected.
Applicants should therefore check their status carefully before approaching officials or submitting another claim.
Payments under the Annapurna Yojana have reportedly started reaching eligible beneficiaries from August 17.
According to the figures provided for the current disbursement process, around 1.45 crore women are expected to receive Rs 3,000 in their bank accounts during the initial phase.
Around 1.80 crore applications have reportedly been received under the scheme. Of these, approximately 1.66 crore applications submitted up to July 10 have already undergone verification.
Another around 14 lakh applications, submitted between July 10 and July 31, are still undergoing verification.
Applicants found eligible after the verification process will also be considered for the benefit.
The government has indicated that eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive payments during the second week of each month.
The reopening of the portal is particularly important for applicants who believe that their names were wrongly excluded from the beneficiary list. The state government had earlier indicated that eligible people left out of the list would be given an opportunity to apply again.
Applicants should therefore first check their status online and then decide whether they need to wait for verification, submit a fresh claim or raise an objection.
The portal also makes it easier for beneficiaries to track their applications without having to immediately visit a government office.
For users accessing the portal, it is important to enter the registered mobile number correctly and keep the OTP confidential. Applicants should use only the official government portal for checking their status and submitting claims.
