Retired IAS Officer Anil Verma Appointed New WBPSC Chairman

The West Bengal government has appointed retired IAS officer Anil Verma as the new Chairman of the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC). The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the state Finance Department on Monday.

According to the official order, the appointment has been made under Article 316(1) of the Constitution of India with the approval of the Governor. His tenure will officially begin from the date he assumes charge.

The notification issued by Nabanna confirmed that Anil Verma would head the constitutional body responsible for recruiting officers and employees for various departments of the West Bengal government.

Nearly Four Decades of Administrative Experience

Anil Verma is a retired 1989-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre. He entered the Indian Administrative Service through the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

During his 37-year administrative career, he served in 27 important positions within the West Bengal government. Most of his professional career was spent in the state administration.

Before retirement, Verma served as the Director of the Netaji Subhas Administrative Training Institute (NSATI). He also held the additional charge of Chairman of the West Bengal Evaluation Board, gaining extensive experience in governance, administration, and public policy.

Key Role in Public Recruitment

The West Bengal Public Service Commission plays a vital constitutional role in recruiting personnel for various government services in the state. The Chairman is responsible for ensuring that examinations, interviews, and recruitment processes are conducted fairly, efficiently, and transparently.

Given Verma’s long administrative background, officials expect him to strengthen institutional functioning and improve recruitment mechanisms.
