Zubair Baloch, the brother of jailed Pakistani gangster Uzair Baloch, was shot in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood on Thursday evening in an incident that has once again drawn attention to the city’s long history of gang violence. According to police, Zubair was attacked by unidentified gunmen and was rushed to hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries. Authorities have launched an investigation and are examining several possible motives behind the shooting.

Attack in Lyari Raises Fresh Security Concerns

Police said the shooting took place in Karachi’s Lyari area, a locality that has witnessed years of violent clashes involving rival criminal groups. Investigators reached the scene soon after the incident, collected evidence, and began reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations.

Officials have not yet identified the attackers or confirmed whether the assault was linked to organised crime. They said every possible angle, including gang rivalry and personal enmity, is being investigated.

Police Investigate Multiple Angles

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation is underway. According to initial findings, the attackers appeared to have targeted Zubair specifically before fleeing the scene.

Law enforcement agencies are questioning witnesses and analysing forensic evidence. No arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.

Uzair Baloch’s Criminal Background

Uzair Baloch is a notorious Pakistani gangster and former leader of the banned People’s Aman Committee, a group that once held significant influence in Karachi’s Lyari district. He has faced numerous allegations involving murder, extortion, organised crime, terrorism and other serious offences.

He was arrested in 2016 and later convicted in a military court. Although he remains imprisoned, his name continues to be associated with Karachi’s history of gang violence and criminal networks. The latest attack on his brother has revived concerns over whether old rivalries remain active despite years of security operations in the city.

Police have reiterated that it is too early to determine the exact motive behind the attack. Investigators are expected to question additional witnesses and analyse electronic evidence before reaching any conclusion. The incident has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of Karachi and the lingering impact of the city’s past gang conflicts.
