Cloud TV Desk: Adidas is emerging as the biggest commercial winner of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, outperforming rival Nike in football apparel sales as demand for national team jerseys continues to rise.

While both global sportswear giants have invested heavily in the tournament, early market data suggests Adidas is benefiting more from World Cup-related consumer spending.

Adidas Sees Strong Jersey Sales

As FIFA’s official World Cup partner, Adidas supplies kits for 14 national teams and manufactures the tournament’s official match ball.

According to M Science analyst Drake MacFarlane, spending on Adidas apparel increased 70% year-over-year in May, with strong momentum continuing into June. The surge has been driven largely by significant growth in jersey sales ahead of the tournament.

Nike Continues to Invest

Nike remains a major player, supplying kits for 12 national teams while launching collaborations with local streetwear designers.

The company has also refreshed football merchandise displays across more than 5,000 Nike and wholesale stores worldwide as it looks to capitalize on World Cup excitement.

Consumer Demand Favors Adidas

Although Nike’s football apparel business is also growing, analysts believe Adidas currently holds the advantage thanks to a stronger product lineup that better matches consumer demand.

With the World Cup entering its crucial stages, both brands are expected to benefit from increased merchandise sales, but Adidas appears to have taken an early lead in the competition off the pitch.
