WTC Points Table India
India strengthened their position in the 2025-27 World Test Championship campaign with a commanding 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle.
The win earned India 12 valuable WTC points and lifted their points percentage from 48.15 to 53.33. However, the victory was not enough to change India’s position in the standings. Shubman Gill’s team remain fifth.
India now have 64 points from 10 Tests, with five wins, four defeats and one draw. Sri Lanka remain sixth after their defeat, with a points percentage of 33.33.
The Galle victory was particularly important for India after their points percentage had fallen to 48.15.
A 12-point gain has now taken the team’s PCT above the 50 per cent mark. However, India still have a significant gap to close on fourth-placed Bangladesh.
Bangladesh currently have a PCT of 66.67 after five Tests. They have recorded three wins, one defeat and one draw. As a result, India’s latest victory has improved their position numerically but has not moved them up the rankings.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, remain sixth. They have one win, two defeats and two draws from five Tests, giving them a PCT of 33.33.
The result in Galle therefore gives India momentum without dramatically changing the qualification equation.
Australia remain at the top of the WTC 2025-27 standings with a points percentage of 77.78.
They have played nine Tests and won seven, despite their recent home defeat against Bangladesh. South Africa are second with a 75 per cent PCT, while New Zealand are third at 72.22 per cent.
Bangladesh’s fourth-place position is particularly significant for India. The gap between the two teams means India will need a sustained run of victories to move into the upper half of the table.
The Galle win has kept India’s campaign alive, but the team cannot afford many more setbacks.
India’s current record stands at five wins, four losses and one draw from 10 matches. The team therefore has a relatively demanding road ahead if it wants to finish among the top two and qualify for the WTC final.
India’s next challenge will be the second Test against Sri Lanka. The match is scheduled to be followed by a two-Test series in New Zealand.
The biggest challenge will then come at home against Australia in a five-Test series. Those matches could have a major impact on India’s final WTC position.
The remaining schedule makes consistency essential for India. Every Test win will improve the team’s points percentage, while a defeat could make the qualification race significantly harder.
Australia’s position at the top also means that the five-Test series against them will be especially important. India will need to perform strongly against the current table leaders while also keeping an eye on the results of other contenders.
The first Test victory over Sri Lanka is therefore best viewed as an important step rather than a decisive breakthrough.
India remain fifth, but their PCT has moved above 53 per cent. Bangladesh remain fourth at 66.67 per cent, meaning the gap is still substantial.
With several major Test series still remaining, the WTC 2025-27 race remains wide open. For India, the message is straightforward: the Galle victory has provided momentum, but the road to the final still demands a strong and consistent run of results.
