Pat Cummins Cricket Australia contract
Cloud TV Desk: Cricket Australia has reportedly offered a massive long-term contract to Pat Cummins in an effort to keep him committed to international cricket and prioritize the national team over franchise leagues.
According to reports, the proposed deal is worth nearly 12 million US dollars over three years, which is equivalent to around ₹140 crore in Indian currency. If finalized, the contract would see the Australian Test and ODI captain earn approximately 4 million US dollars per year.
Australian media outlet Sydney Morning Herald reported that the move comes at a time when franchise cricket leagues around the world are increasingly attracting top international players with lucrative offers. Cricket Australia’s main objective is reportedly to ensure that Cummins continues to focus on Test cricket and long-term international commitments.
Currently, Cummins is playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. His value in franchise cricket has grown significantly over the past few years because of his leadership, consistency and all-format performances.
Earlier reports had also claimed that an IPL franchise had offered Cummins around 10 million Australian dollars to step away from international cricket and focus exclusively on global T20 leagues.
The growing influence of franchise cricket has become a major concern for several cricket boards worldwide. Cricket Australia chief James Allsopp reportedly stated that retaining elite players has become increasingly difficult in modern cricket because of packed schedules and the rise of multiple franchise tournaments.
He emphasized that maintaining the strength and relevance of Test cricket depends heavily on ensuring that top players continue representing their national teams. As a result, Cricket Australia is now looking to strengthen its central contract system to compete financially with franchise leagues.
Cricket analysts believe the proposed agreement is significant not only for Cummins but also for the future of international cricket. In recent years, many players have been tempted to prioritize franchise tournaments because of the enormous financial rewards involved.
The proposed contract is therefore being viewed as a strong statement from Cricket Australia that it intends to protect international cricket by investing heavily in its biggest stars.
If the deal is finalized, it could become one of the most valuable central contracts in cricket history.
