Vijay Tamil Nadu Government Formation
Cloud TV Desk: A major political shake-up appears to be underway in Tamil Nadu as actor-turned-politician Vijay formally staked claim to form the next government after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), delivered a stunning performance in the Assembly elections.
On Wednesday, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and reportedly submitted a formal request to form the government. The move came shortly after election results positioned TVK as the single largest party in the state Assembly, breaking the long-standing dominance of the DMK-AIADMK political rivalry.
However, government formation is far from certain at this stage. TVK is still short of the crucial majority mark of 118 seats, forcing the party to depend heavily on post-poll support from allies, independents and smaller regional parties.
Political sources indicate that the Indian National Congress has extended support to Vijay’s party. The development is being viewed as a major political realignment in Tamil Nadu, especially given Congress’ long-standing relationship with the DMK alliance. Reports suggest that internal discomfort has already begun surfacing within sections of the DMK camp over Congress moving closer to TVK.
At the same time, the AIADMK has clearly ruled out supporting Vijay’s government bid. Though a section within the party was reportedly open to negotiations, senior leadership has taken a firm stand against extending support to TVK. This has made the arithmetic of government formation more complicated.
The role of independent MLAs and smaller parties is now expected to become extremely crucial. Political observers believe the coming 48 hours could witness intense negotiations and backchannel discussions across party lines.
Analysts are already describing the election result as a historic turning point in Tamil Nadu politics. For decades, the state’s political landscape revolved mainly around the DMK and AIADMK. Vijay’s emergence as a serious third force has dramatically altered that equation.
According to observers, Vijay’s anti-corruption messaging, youth-centric campaign strategy and massive popularity as a film star helped TVK attract first-time voters and urban middle-class support. His campaign slogan promising “a new political culture” appears to have resonated strongly with younger voters across the state.
Despite the excitement among supporters, constitutional procedure and political stability remain key concerns. Sources close to the Raj Bhavan claim the Governor is still not fully convinced that TVK can comfortably prove its majority on the Assembly floor. As a result, there is no official confirmation yet regarding a swearing-in ceremony.
Meanwhile, celebrations have already erupted among Vijay supporters across Tamil Nadu. Social media platforms are flooded with posts and hashtags such as “CM Vijay”, reflecting the growing enthusiasm around his possible rise to power.
Still, the final outcome remains uncertain. Whether Vijay ultimately succeeds in becoming Tamil Nadu’s next Chief Minister or gets trapped in the complexities of coalition politics will depend entirely on how the numbers align in the next few days.
For now, Tamil Nadu stands at the centre of one of the most dramatic political moments in recent South Indian history.
