Cloud TV English Desk : Tension gripped New Delhi on the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session as thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) gathered for the proposed “Chalo Parliament” march.
Protesters attempted to march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament despite police denying permission for the rally. Security forces stopped the crowd with barricades, leading to clashes between demonstrators and police.
Several protesters alleged that police used batons to disperse the crowd. Delhi Police, however, maintained that only minimum force was used after protesters attempted to breach security barricades.
Authorities deployed heavy security across central Delhi, especially around Parliament House and Jantar Mantar. Mobile internet services were also temporarily suspended in parts of the capital as a precautionary measure.
The CJP movement has emerged from nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and broader concerns about transparency in India’s education system. Protesters are demanding accountability, reforms, and the resignation of the Union Education Minister.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a prolonged hunger strike supporting the movement, reiterated that he would consider ending his fast only after receiving concrete assurances from the government.
With Parliament in session, the protest has acquired significant political attention. Opposition leaders have expressed solidarity with the demonstrators, while the government insists that investigations into examination-related irregularities are already underway.
The situation in central Delhi remains under close watch, with security agencies maintaining tight vigil around Parliament and adjoining areas.
