When she needed a replacement, she simply visited a nearby optical store, showed her prescription, and placed an order. Within a few days, her lenses were ready for collection. The total cost came to approximately $26.
The traveler expressed surprise at how easy the process was compared to the United States. In her post, she remarked, “America, please take notes,” highlighting the convenience and affordability she experienced while obtaining prescription lenses in India.
According to Ivy, obtaining prescription contact lenses in the United States often involves eye examinations, appointments, and insurance-related procedures. She said the simplicity of the Indian system made a strong impression on her.

This is not the first time an American has praised India’s healthcare affordability. Earlier this month, another US woman described the American healthcare system as a “scam” after purchasing a medication in India for $25 that would have cost her nearly $1,000 in the United States.

Ivy’s viral experience has once again highlighted the stark contrast between healthcare-related expenses in India and the United States.
