Cloud TV Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fresh political attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor publicly backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of key issues during his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. The development has sparked debate over differences within the Congress party regarding foreign policy and national security matters.

The controversy emerged after Prime Minister Modi met President Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. The discussions reportedly focused on regional security, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the safety of Indian sailors, and broader India-U.S. relations. While several Congress leaders criticized Modi’s approach, arguing that he failed to raise certain critical concerns strongly enough, Tharoor adopted a notably different stance.

Shashi Tharoor praised the Prime Minister’s emphasis on the safety of Indian sailors operating in conflict zones and suggested that national interests should transcend partisan politics. He described the Modi-Trump interaction as cordial and constructive, indicating that India had appropriately conveyed its concerns regarding maritime security and regional stability.

The BJP quickly seized upon Tharoor’s remarks. Party leaders argued that the Congress MP’s comments exposed contradictions within the opposition party. BJP spokespersons claimed that if a senior Congress leader could appreciate the government’s diplomatic efforts, Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the Prime Minister appeared increasingly disconnected from the facts. The party described Tharoor’s intervention as evidence that Congress lacked a unified position on major national issues.

The issue has gained additional attention because Tharoor has previously taken positions that differ from the official Congress line, particularly on matters related to foreign affairs and national security. Political observers note that his latest remarks have once again highlighted ideological and strategic differences within the opposition camp.

Although Congress has not officially responded to the BJP’s latest criticism, the episode has intensified political debate ahead of key parliamentary discussions. Analysts believe the controversy reflects broader disagreements over how opposition parties should engage with the government on issues involving international diplomacy and national interests.
