In an emotional video message, the actor questioned, “Is this the India we dreamed of?”, expressing solidarity with the students.
The protests were sparked by allegations of irregularities and a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Thousands of students gathered at Jantar Mantar demanding a fair investigation and accountability. During the demonstration, police allegedly used force to disperse the protesters, triggering widespread criticism.
Reacting to the incident, Naseeruddin Shah said that young people fighting for justice should not be met with violence. He stressed that peaceful protest and freedom of expression are fundamental democratic rights and urged authorities to treat students with dignity.

Meanwhile, a viral video falsely claimed that Shah had personally attended the protest. Fact-checks later confirmed that the footage was actually from a film screening event in Mumbai and had no connection to the Jantar Mantar demonstration.
Naseeruddin Shah has previously voiced support for student movements and civil rights campaigns. His latest statement has once again highlighted the growing debate over the handling of student protests in India.
