Pakistan’s business community has raised concerns over what it describes as a “silent visa ban” by the United Arab Emirates. Business leaders claim that traders, exporters and investors are increasingly unable to obtain UAE visas, affecting commercial activities and cross-border trade. However, UAE authorities have denied imposing any official visa ban and maintain that visa applications across all categories continue to be processed.
According to representatives of Pakistan’s business chambers, visa difficulties have disrupted business meetings, investment visits and participation in major international exhibitions. Several business owners with long-standing operations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah reportedly face repeated visa rejections despite established commercial relationships.
Industry representatives warn that uncertainty surrounding visa approvals could affect Pakistan’s export sector, particularly companies planning to participate in international trade fairs such as Gulfood in Dubai. Exporters say the inability of sales teams to travel may reduce opportunities to secure overseas buyers and expand into new markets.
Despite these claims, UAE authorities have maintained that no formal visa ban has been imposed on Pakistani nationals. Officials insist that applications continue to be processed under existing immigration rules.
Business leaders, however, argue that there is a noticeable gap between the official position and the experiences of applicants. Pakistani trade organisations have reportedly contacted UAE diplomatic officials seeking clarification but say they have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation for the reported visa difficulties.
Analysts believe prolonged uncertainty over visas could affect bilateral trade, investment flows and business confidence between Pakistan and the UAE. The Gulf nation remains one of Pakistan’s key economic partners and hosts a significant Pakistani expatriate community.
While some observers have linked the issue to broader diplomatic developments between the two countries, there has been no official confirmation connecting visa processing with political relations. As a result, the situation remains unclear, with business groups continuing to demand greater transparency and diplomatic engagement to resolve the issue. Until an official policy change is announced, the reported restrictions remain based on the experiences shared by Pakistani businesses rather than a declared UAE government visa ban.
