Cloud TV Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a landmark commissioning ceremony in Kolkata on International Yoga Day, inducting three indigenous naval platforms into the Indian Navy. The event highlighted India’s growing maritime strength and its commitment to defence self-reliance.
The three vessels commissioned were INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray. All three platforms have been built in India and represent major achievements under the country’s indigenous shipbuilding programme. The commissioning is expected to significantly enhance the operational capability of the Indian Navy.
INS Dunagiri is an advanced stealth frigate designed for modern naval warfare. INS Agray is an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft, developed to strengthen coastal defence and underwater threat detection. INS Sanshodhak is a large survey vessel that will play a vital role in hydrographic surveys, maritime mapping, and strategic oceanographic research.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s progress toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing. He noted that indigenous platforms such as these strengthen national security while reducing dependence on foreign military equipment.
Defence analysts believe the induction of these vessels comes at a crucial time as geopolitical competition in the Indian Ocean Region continues to intensify. The new platforms will improve surveillance capabilities, anti-submarine operations, maritime domain awareness, and overall naval readiness.
The ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, defence officials, and dignitaries. By linking the commissioning with International Yoga Day, the government also projected a message of a confident and self-reliant India capable of safeguarding its maritime interests while advancing indigenous technological capabilities.
