Cloud TV Desk: Air India has announced major cuts to its international flight operations, suspending several routes and reducing flight frequencies on multiple overseas sectors until August. The airline cited rising jet fuel prices, airspace restrictions (Air India international flight suspension 2026) and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East as the primary reasons behind the decision.
According to the airline, the temporary changes will remain in effect between June and August as international operations continue to face severe commercial pressure. Air India stated that it hopes to restore normal services once the situation stabilises.
Among the routes temporarily suspended are Delhi–Chicago, Mumbai–New York, Delhi–Shanghai, Chennai–Singapore, Mumbai–Dhaka and Delhi–Malé. In addition, the airline is reducing flight frequencies on several routes connecting India with Europe and North America.
The airline has been heavily impacted by ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has resulted in restricted air corridors and forced aircraft to take longer alternative routes. This has significantly increased fuel consumption and operating costs. Indian carriers are also facing additional pressure due to limitations related to Pakistan’s airspace.
Despite the temporary cuts, Air India clarified that it will still operate more than 1,200 international flights every month. However, the airline also indicated that further route adjustments may become necessary if the current geopolitical and fuel-price situation continues.
The suspension of the Chennai–Singapore route is expected to particularly affect passengers from southern India, as the sector is considered important for both tourism and business travel.
Meanwhile, viral claims on social media suggesting that Air India had suspended all international operations were dismissed as misleading. Multiple reports confirmed that the airline has only reduced or suspended specific routes temporarily and continues to operate a large number of international services.
Aviation experts believe that rising fuel costs, geopolitical instability and restricted airspace are placing growing pressure on global airline operations. As a result, international airfares may also increase in the coming months.
