ED raids Nadimul Haque
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday conducted searches at multiple premises linked to Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mohammed Nadimul Haque in Kolkata, Delhi and Ranchi.
The searches are being carried out at seven locations in connection with a case involving Urdu daily newspaper ‘Akhbar-E-Mashriq Pvt. Ltd.’, of which Haque is a director. The agency has registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) based on an FIR registered by the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
One of the locations searched by the ED is the ‘Akhbar-E-Mashriq’ office in Park Circus, Kolkata. Investigators are examining documents, financial records and other material that may be relevant to the probe.
According to the ED, the case includes allegations of illegal transactions, unaccounted cash transactions and funding from suspicious sources. The agency has also said that the case involves allegations relating to the publication and dissemination of material allegedly promoting communal disharmony.
The searches are aimed at examining the financial dealings associated with the entities and individuals under investigation and tracing the alleged flow of funds.
The ED is also conducting searches at locations in Delhi linked to Nadimul Haque. Officials have visited the premises at 61 South Avenue, an address associated with the Rajya Sabha MP and used for Trinamool Congress-related activities, according to reports.
The agency has confirmed searches at seven premises across Kolkata, Delhi and Ranchi. Investigators are examining financial records, documents and other material gathered during the operation.
The investigation is focused on allegations surrounding suspicious financial transactions and the possible source and movement of funds. The ED is examining the financial trail to determine whether the transactions under investigation involved alleged proceeds of crime.
The agency has not yet provided detailed information about what, if anything, has been recovered during the searches or what further action may follow.
Neither the Trinamool Congress nor Nadimul Haque has, so far, issued a detailed public response to the searches.
The allegations remain part of an ongoing investigation and have not been established as proven offences.
