Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli 2027 World Cup
With roughly a year remaining before the 2027 ODI World Cup, questions continue to surround the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India’s ODI setup.
There is no final decision yet on whether the two veterans will feature in the 2027 World Cup. Amid the discussion, former India all-rounder Sandeep Patil has made a notable remark about the possibility of India moving on from the two stars.
Patil highlighted India’s strong bench strength and said he does not expect the team to face major problems if Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli are not part of the squad in the future.
However, he stressed that the decision will depend on several factors.
According to Patil, the two players’ willingness to continue, their ability to maintain fitness and the selectors’ strategy will all play a role in determining their future.
He also pointed out that the selectors will need to consider whether India has strong enough replacements if the time eventually comes to leave either player out of the team.
While discussing the possibility of a transition, Patil was equally clear about the stature of Rohit and Kohli.
He described both players as legends who have been part of Indian cricket for many years.
Patil specifically praised Rohit’s contribution to white-ball cricket. He also spoke very highly of Kohli and his contribution to Indian cricket.
His comments therefore combined recognition of their long-term impact with an assessment of India’s ability to build for the next generation.
For now, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain part of India’s ODI plans. The two have been selected for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
Shubman Gill will captain the side, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. The first ODI will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, followed by matches in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3.
The series comes with the 2027 World Cup less than a year away and will provide another opportunity for the two senior batters to continue their ODI careers.
For now, their World Cup participation remains undecided. Their own willingness to continue, fitness and the selectors’ long-term plans will be key factors in determining what happens next.
