The murder of 63-year-old Kanpur pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Minocha has taken a dramatic turn, with investigators alleging that his daughter-in-law, Shalu, plotted the killing after growing resentful over CCTV surveillance, restrictions on late-night parties and control over household finances.

According to the police investigation reported by NDTV, Shalu allegedly offered a former domestic worker Rs 6 lakh to kill her father-in-law. She has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Businessman Found Dead Inside Apartment

Vineet Minocha was found dead inside his apartment in Kanpur on Saturday night. Police said he had suffered 26 stab wounds.

Investigators examining CCTV footage reportedly identified Vishal, a former employee of the family, and his associate Raj Kishore as suspects. Both were arrested.

According to the investigation, Vishal allegedly told police that the killing had been carried out at Shalu’s behest. Police subsequently questioned Shalu, who investigators say initially attempted to mislead them before allegedly admitting her involvement.

CCTV Surveillance and Financial Control

Investigators said Shalu was unhappy with the level of surveillance inside the family home. According to police, CCTV cameras were used to monitor activities in the house, while her father-in-law objected to her attending late-night parties or returning home late.

She also allegedly complained about having limited control over household finances. Despite being part of a wealthy family, she reportedly had to seek money from her father-in-law even for relatively small expenses involving herself and her husband.

Police said a heated argument followed after Shalu returned home late from a party on July 28. Investigators believe the dispute may have played a role in the subsequent alleged conspiracy.

Rs 6 Lakh Allegedly Offered for the Killing

According to investigators, Shalu later approached Vishal and allegedly offered him Rs 6 lakh to kill her father-in-law.

Police believe Rs 2 lakh was to be paid on September 6, with the remaining Rs 4 lakh promised 15 days later.

Investigators also allege that Shalu helped arrange a duplicate key to the apartment. On September 4, she reportedly called Vishal to the house under the pretext of giving him some items and finalised the alleged plan.

On Saturday night, Shalu left for a party with her husband, Subrat, and their child. Shortly after they left, Vishal and Raj Kishore allegedly arrived at the apartment.

When the security guard stopped them, Vishal reportedly connected him with Shalu by phone. She allegedly told the guard that the two men had come to deliver medicines, following which they were allowed inside.

Initial Plan Allegedly Involved Staging a Natural Death

Investigators said the initial plan was allegedly to suffocate Vineet with a pillow and make the death appear to be a heart attack.

However, the plan reportedly changed. Police allege that Vishal and Raj Kishore were hiding inside the apartment when Vineet entered a room. They then attacked him with knives before fleeing.

Shalu and her husband reportedly returned from the party at around 3 am and found Vineet dead. Authorities were subsequently informed.

Police also found that no valuables had been stolen from the apartment, strengthening the suspicion that the killing was linked to a personal dispute rather than robbery.

Police Investigating Husband’s Possible Role

Shalu is currently in custody, while investigators are examining whether her husband, Subrat, knew about the alleged conspiracy or played any role in it.

Police are examining call records, CCTV footage, forensic evidence and the statements of the accused to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The allegations against Shalu remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial process.
