Jamui minor harassment case
The Bihar Police have taken action against the main accused in the Jamui minor harassment case. Nandan Yadav, identified as the prime accused, was injured after being shot by police during an operation to arrest him.
According to the police, Yadav allegedly tried to escape during the arrest operation. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Bihar ADG Law and Order Suhina Anupam said a police team had gone to arrest Nandan Yadav. During the operation, the accused allegedly attempted to escape from police custody.
Police subsequently opened fire, and Yadav was hit in the leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police also said another accused, identified as Hareram Yadav, was taken into custody after police had to open fire during an operation to arrest him. Both accused are now in police custody, according to the report.
The incident reportedly took place on September 19 in the Madwa Pahad area of Jamui. Two minor students were allegedly stopped by a group of youths while returning after coaching.
A video of the incident later surfaced on social media. It purportedly showed a group of youths surrounding the two minors. The girl was allegedly subjected to inappropriate behaviour, while her male companion was also reportedly assaulted.
After the video surfaced, the police launched an investigation. Police said around seven to eight people had been identified in connection with the incident. Several arrests were made, and a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. A Special Investigation Team was also formed to investigate the case.
The police have also initiated action against social media accounts that circulated the video. Authorities said revealing the identity of a minor victim through such content is a serious offence.
According to an India Today report, police registered cases against around 120 social media profile holders for circulating the video that allegedly revealed the identity of the minor girl.
The investigation into the incident is continuing. The allegations against the accused remain subject to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
