ECI electoral roll revision 2027
The Election Commission of India has announced a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in 17 states and Union territories ahead of Assembly elections due in 2027. The exercise will cover Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa, among other states and Union territories. January 1, 2027, will be the qualifying date for the revision.
The process will include enrolling eligible citizens and correcting details in existing electoral entries. It will also identify discrepancies and entries linked to deceased, shifted or multiple registrations. Address standardisation and, where required, a review of polling-station arrangements will also form part of the exercise.
The ECI has communicated the decision to the chief electoral officers of the concerned states and Union territories. As part of the preparatory work, Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house checks. The verification will focus on identifying eligible citizens who are not registered, discrepancies in electoral details and entries connected to deceased or shifted electors.
After publication of the draft electoral roll, eligible citizens will be able to submit claims for inclusion and correction, as well as requests for deletion of entries. Objections to inaccurate entries can also be filed. The final electoral rolls will be prepared after verification and disposal of applications under the prescribed procedure.
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly has 403 members and its term ends on May 22, 2027. The Manipur Assembly has 60 members, Goa has 40, Punjab has 117 and Uttarakhand has 70. The terms of the Assemblies in these four states end in March 2027.
